Ernie is a happy, playful dog and friendly to both dogs and humans. Although he likes small dogs, he can get a bit excited and may accidentally step on them, so he is probably more suited to a family with a medium to large dog.
Ernie loves to playing tug-of-war or soccer with a teenager or older child.
Ernie loves squeaky toys - it doesn't matter if they're hard of soft. He also enjoys balls, although tug-of-war is probably his favourite game.
Ernie likes company and one of his favourite activities is to potter around the garden with a human. He doesn't enjoy being left outside on his own, but as long as he has human company, he can stay outside all day.
Ernie came to us to practise being left alone, as he has struggled with this previously. When he first arrived, he would pace, whimper and bark almost immediately when we left. He has improved a lot since then and can now be left (with our greyhound) for a few hours. This training will need to continue in his new home, but we believe he will improve even further with time and patience...and a licki mat!
Ernie walks extremely well on a leash and can be taken anywhere - a busy shopping centre, a soccer match, a pub or cafe - no problem! He loves going for walks and definitely needs at least one walk a day (preferably more!).
Ernie would make a wonderful companion for someone who is at home more often than not and/or happy to include him on any outings. He would benefit from a calm canine friend.
